We are a performing arts social enterprise for children and young people of all ages, based primarily in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. We use performing arts to train, inspire and encourage growth in individuals and groups that we work with. We specialise in working with those with difficulties in mainstream school or who have been out of education for a long time, and regularly deliver community engagement projects for young people in the community.
How? We deliver after school club evening classes and alternative education provision, young people develop their social skills, self-esteem and confidence, whilst increasing their employability skills and gaining skills that they can use throughout the creative industry.
We have a volunteer and work experience program, where individuals can work with our students and gain skills and training from our highly experienced teachers, with the knowledge that they are supporting the next generation to become better members of society and leaders.
If you had to describe what you're creating in one tweet, how would you do it?
Opening hearts and minds through performing arts, helping the next generations in Moving Forward. Those that support us are from a range of backgrounds and interests. Although we use performing arts as the tool, our focus is on personal development and supporting individuals to grow in confidence and self-esteem. Our supporters are often those wanting to support young people, individuals that recognise the important of arts in education or those interested in performing arts. Such supporters have included Lottery Grant funds for community based projects and a commercial Latin Dance company who currently sponsor us.
I want to do
We run a course for young people not in education or employment from ages 16 to 21. We currently do not get funding for this course and it focuses on supporting young people into work through developing employability skill, confidence and self-esteem through training them in performing arts and events management. We work with all of our students to make sure that they are ready for the next step in their lives, enabling them to progress onto the next course or into a new job.
Because we do not get funding for this course, we often run it low on teaching resources. We want to make the course better and offer opportunities for the young people to be able to learn using IT and video equipment, as we recognise the importance of having a clear understanding of tech in today’s society.
We are raising money for IT and video equipment so that we can improve the resources we have for this course and in turn improve the teaching and learning opportunities. We want you to help us to inspire and encourage the future generations of 14 to 21 year olds by donating to this cause.
Why do I need your support
We need your support because we believe that every young person out of education should have the same opportunity as those in full time education, irrelevant of social background. Many of our young people are from difficult and vulnerable backgrounds, often having to deal with complex homes lives and in some cases homelessness or being in care. Due to this, mainstream education often becomes difficult for them, and in many cases they do not succeed in completing basic secondary education. We work to give them the opportunities they have missed previously.
We believe that by improving our resources we will be able to offer yet another set of skills for the young people we are working with, and in turn make them more employable for current employers both in and out of the creative sector. These resources will not only allow them easier access to the internet for job hunting whilst they are with us, but they will also help them to build on their IT and media skills.
