I am a geneticist specialising in Stem cell biology and Reproductive Genetics at the Institute for Women’s Health in University College London.
I did my BSc in Molecular Genetics at University College Cork in Ireland. I went on to do my MSc in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine at University College London. I did my PhD and post doctoral research at University College London in Stem cell biology and developmental genetics in the laboratory of Professor Robin Lovell-Badge at the National Institute for Medical Research. Here I researched the genes involved in sex determination. In my PhD, I worked on key genes involved in the formation of the ovary and discovered a key area within a female-specific gene, which when mutated, causes premature ovarian failure and can cause ovarian cancer.
